ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY

Orthognathic surgey includes surgical correction for an abnormal bite and jaw relationship. These cases are usually coordinated with an Orthodontist for an optimum outcome. The results are not only a functional improvement, like mastication, speech and airway, but also aesthtics.

Dr. Momtaheni contibuted to an Oral Surgery Textbook "Modern Practice in Orthognathic Surgery, Chapter in Sleep Apnea,. W.B. Saunders, 1992. There he advocated and presented a case of a middle age man with Obstructed Sleep Apnea who was treated with Orthognathic Sugery. Twenty-three years later, this technique is used all over the world for the treatment of Obstructed Sleep Apnea.

What makes our services special is 35 years experience, in office capability to obtian 3D imaging of jaw deformities and analysing the outcome before the surgery. Dr. Momtaheni, along with his colleague Dr. Joseph Hung, are pioneers of performing orthognatic surgeries with Invisalign alone. This will bypass the need of braces. Credential: Dr. Momtaheni has been one of the pioneers of Orthognathic Surgery in the United States. He and his colleques have developed a concept of "Mini Residency Program" over 30 years ago to teach other surgeons the techniques and knowledge to perform these procedures. In 1985 and 1986 Dr, Momtaheni lectured on " A Safe and Predicable Technique for Multi-Piece Maxillary Osteotomies" for the National Annual Meeting of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. In addition, he has been teaching Reidents at Columbia Presbyterian and Beth Israel Medical Centers for the past 29 years.

I have been meaning to write this review for a long time.
